Curious of the landscape I inhabit and walk, I have come to realise my practical application involves my entire being and what it means to be me. The work has been a learning process, allowing me to discover the underlying themes that relate to walking and creating; losing loved family members, establishing my own identity, relationships and my sense of belonging in the world. Inspired by Richard Long, the steady rhythms of walking (Fuchs, 1986: P43) is a great way to think and reflect while recording the traces of remaining and passing moments. Walter Benjamin, quoted in Constellations of Reading, (Salzani, 2009: P105) states “to live means to leave traces”. By establishing pathways in both familiar and unknown places, I am also leaving traces of both a physical and mental pathway, as well as gathering and sharing my surroundings for others to experience. The artwork is about discovering the art and the world through my senses and being integrated in my environment (Christoffersen, 2015: P17).
