You will need: Paper, permanent pen/fine liner, watercolours, paintbrush and water.
Step 1
Start by drawing out your flower. If it is easier, draw it in pencil first, and then use the fine liner over the top. The fine liner won’t bleed or smudge when you add the water so it is important to use a permanent pen rather than biro.
Step 2
Using a light colour, start to paint the shapes of the petals. These will just be shapes at the moment and may look a bit odd. Use the side of your brush to get a good curve and turn your paper to paint at a better angle.
Try painting outside the lines!
Step 3
Add some similar colours , lighter and darker tones and watch the colours blend together in water. You may want to build up the layers by painting over the same section in the same colour to give it more depth. By adding darker colours, the petals will begin to look separate and individual.
Step 4
Leave your artwork to dry and be careful not to smudge it. If the paper has crinkled, place a flat weight on top of your work once it is dry help flatten the paper.
