Step 1
Cut out your cardboard bigger than the size you want your weave to be. Measure out 1cm lines across the top and bottom making sure they line up, and then cut little slits on theses lines.

Step 2
Tie your wool around the first slit. Then wrap up and down between the slits on the top and the bottom to create the warp. Do this as tightly as possible. When you reach the end, tie the wool to keep the tension.

Step 3
Cut a piece of card the width of the cardboard and weave it under and over the wool creating the warp. This stops you going to near the bottom of the cardboard and it is easier to tie off at the end.
Cut a large length of wool and starting on one side, thread the wool under and over the warp until it comes out the other side. Then repeat back and forth changing colours if you want to when you have used up your length of wool. Don’t pull too tight as otherwise the edges of the weave will be pulled in.
When changing colour, just dangle the last bit of wool behind the weave and start the new colour.

Step 4
Leaving an inch of space at the top, carefully pull the warp off the cardboard and the tie wool in loops so you can hang it up. Do this for the top and the bottom.
There you have it, your very own weave! Try experimenting with different materials – you could a try a weave with old plastic bags!
